The Hemingway Daiquiri. A Mother’s Day Special feat. Ms. Lucie
Ernest Hemingway didn’t just write classics — he drank them. But today isn’t really about Hemingway. Today is about Ms. Lucie —
Ernest Hemingway was a regular at El Floridita in Havana. He loved the daiquiri. He just wanted it bigger, drier, and with something extra in it.
Bartender Constantino Ribalaigua Vert built it for him — no sugar, double rum, a splash of maraschino and grapefruit to fill the gap. Hemingway called it his. Today, My mom and I are making it ours. Happy Mother’s Day.
What’s in the glass:
Denizen Aged White Rum (5yr) — Aged five years in bourbon barrels, then charcoal-filtered back to white. You get the structure and depth of a barrel-aged rum without the color. Clean, complex, and built for this drink.
Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur — Made from Marasca cherries — fruit, pits, stems, and leaves — and aged in Finnish ash wood since 1821. Nutty, floral, and completely irreplaceable.
Fresh grapefruit juice — Bitter, bright, and dry. It’s what separates this from a classic daiquiri.
Fresh lime juice — The backbone. Keeps everything honest.
The Build: 1.5oz Denizen Aged White | .5oz Luxardo Maraschino | .75oz fresh grapefruit juice | .5oz fresh lime juice
Shake hard with ice. Double strain. Up.
