It’s a New Year, and most of us are carrying at least one resolution — for many people, that includes alcohol. In this episode of Fox’s Bar, I’m sharing practical tips and intentional cocktail recipes that help you stay on your path without feeling deprived. Whether you’re cutting back, drinking more consciously, or just recalibrating, these drinks are about balance, ritual, and enjoyment — not punishment.

::Healthy(-ish) Drinking Tips::

-The healthiest drinking tip, honestly, is not drinking at all — but if you do drink, intention matters. White spirits like tequila, vodka, gin, and rum typically have fewer calories than darker spirits.

-Cut out soda, juice concentrates, and sugary mixers. Opt for soda water, fresh citrus, and whole ingredients. Portion size matters.

-Oversized novelty drinks often mean excess sugar and alcohol — moderation goes a long way.

-Use natural flavors like lemon, lime, blueberries, herbs, and spices to add depth without unnecessary sugar. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

::Skinny Margarita:: A cleaner take on a classic.

Ingredients 2 oz Tequila Blanco

1.5 oz Fresh Lime Juice

1 oz Fresh Orange Juice

1 tsp Agave Nectar (adjust to taste) Fun fact: Agave nectar is lower on the glycemic index than sugar, but it’s about 1.5x sweeter, so a little goes a long way.

Method

Shake with ice and strain into a rocks glass. No salt rim. Optional: muddle jalapeño for heat.

::Beet Rosé:: Inspired by Eric Jacobs of NYC’s J. Bespoke, and named after Pete Rose — the controversial baseball legend.

Ingredients

2 oz Vodka

1 oz Fresh Beet Juice

¾ oz Fresh Lime Juice

6 Mint Leaves Prosecco (chilled, to top)

Method

Shake all ingredients except Prosecco with ice.

Double strain into a highball glass and top with Prosecco. Garnish with a mint sprig and lemon twist.

::Apricot Whisky Sour:: A seasonal riff using preserves for body and texture.

Ingredients

2 oz Whisky

1 oz Apricot Preserves

½ oz Fresh Lemon Juice

Method

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain over fresh ice. Garnish with apricot slices.
